this bike was a $40.00 craigslist find.the bike retails for about $1100.00 i brought it home, charged it up and other than having tired batteries it worked great,it did between 18,and 20mph,and ran smooth as silk.but having a need for speed i wanted to overvolt it.these internal controllers are notorious for frying at 24v let alone 36v.the motor is a $300.00 setup and i couldnt see destroying it,so i bought two of the same motors with fried controllers from a guy for $10.00 each, and a 36v 25a external controller for another $35.00 and began my experiments.i had to boil the motor for several hours to get all of the potting ond the controller out of it,and i had to try about thirty diferent combinations of wire connections to figure out the phase and sensor wiring,it was a big pain in the neck, but well worth it.i installed a new double walled back wheel, new frame pivot bushings, new wide cruiser bars and adjustable goose neck, new eight speed shifter, new hairpin springer cruiser seat, three new 12/18 batteries, new fuji cruiser fenders, new schwalbe fat frank 2.35"baloon tires.i custom made a 6" layback seatpost,a switch and charge port box, battery racks, and misc. brackets.this project was built for my fifteen yesr old,a reward for getting his grades up. |
