Vehicle | 1989 Volkswagen Polo 86C Originally 760kg, 1675lbs, 1.3l, 40kw (55hv), 96nm
Motor | Kostov K9 144 volt Series Wound DC
Drivetrain | 4-speed clutchless
Controller | Evnetics Soliton Jr.
Batteries | 49 Thunder Sky 90ah, 3.20 Volt, Lithium Iron Phosphate
System Voltage | 157 Volts
Charger | Elcon TcCharger (Elcon) charger
Heater | 230V AC heating element in the original heater core. It has only ~800 watts of power with this voltage, but it is enough to defrost the windshield.
DC/DC Converter | Elcon 400w Also TcCharger, same as Elcon

Top Speed | 105 MPH (168 KPH) I have driven 80mph or 130kmh (with 200 battery amp limit). Calculated top speed is 105mph/170kmh. Calculated by YAEC (Yet another EV calculator).
Acceleration | It accelerates pretty fast with only 200 battery amps. After I add water cooling to Soliton I'm going to tweak it and add 50-80 bamps and maybe go to 500 motor amps. It is clutchless so it's kinda hard to do fast shifting..
Range | 60 Miles (96 Kilometers) Calculated range is 60 miles, 100km. I have actually driven a bit less than 50 miles, 80km in a one charge.
Watt Hours/Mile | 350 Wh/Mile TBD slower speed consumptions.. When travelling at top speed 130kmh the voltage is around 140V IIRC and Soliton draws 200 amps from battery. Highest consumption is: 140v x 200a / 130km/h = 215whrs per km Or 350whrs per mile.
EV Miles |
| ||||||||
Seating Capacity | 2 adults
Curb Weight | 1,960 Pounds (890 Kilograms) 890kg, car got 130kg fatter. Still quite lightweight.
Tires | 155/70 13" | ||||||||
Conversion Time | Started planning in 2012.. 2013 gas motor out and electric in. Then ~4 years of idling. And final conversion was in 1 year.
Conversion Cost | +10 000 euros.
Additional Features | It has sunroof and pretty good audio devices. Also Grumpy cat hates your Prius.
The car was inspected succesfully in 11.5.2018. I drove 350km in two days and rear shock absorber decided it was its time to quit its job.. Now waiting for new shock absorber to arrive. This one is a cheap one (I just want to get as quickly as possible back on the road), but I'm going to replace all shocks and springs with Koni absorbers and H&R springs later in the autumn/winter 2018. 22.5 Back on road. 700km driven and around 70 euros saved on gas. |
