---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Location | Eugene, Oregon United States map | ||||||||
Vehicle | 1972 Chevrolet El Camino The coolest, quietest El Camino, ever! (except MAYBE for Tom's...) Built by David's son-in-law, Sarth Larkin. | ||||||||
Motor | Netgain Warp 11 Series Wound DC | ||||||||
Drivetrain | Was a Turbo Hydra-Matic 350; changed it to a Saginaw 4-speed with a Hurst shifter. | ||||||||
Controller | Evnetics Soliton 1 Liquid-cooled. | ||||||||
Batteries | 50 Sinopoly 200 Ah, 3.20 Volt, Lithium-Ion Expensive :( | ||||||||
System Voltage | 160 Volts | ||||||||
Charger | Elcon HF/PFC 1500 ..Tried an Eltek for 6 months - could never get it to charge right. Elcon seems to work just fine! | ||||||||
Heater | I gutted the heater core shroud, fabricated a mount plate & installed a 1500W ceramic heating element from EVSource. | ||||||||
DC/DC Converter | Acme The first one burnt up as soon as I connected it; I mis-wired the E-xpert pro digital readout. | ||||||||
Instrumentation | Has an added LED light and a TBS electronics battery monitor readout gauge. This was a pain - it has to have an independent power source (not tied to the chassis) and its own charger, but it should do the trick. I also added a Tach. | ||||||||
Top Speed | It'll go just as fast as the Saginaw 4-speed will allow it to in 4th gear @ 5000 RPMs. | ||||||||
Acceleration | Should be fast enough. I'm messing with the slew rate now; it should be a screamer! | ||||||||
Range | 60 Miles (96 Kilometers) Estimated 100 miles, but we'll see... | ||||||||
Watt Hours/Mile | Haven't done the math yet | ||||||||
EV Miles |
| ||||||||
Seating Capacity | Two - took out the bench & installed two Jeep Moab seats. | ||||||||
Curb Weight | 3,650 Pounds (1,659 Kilograms) Heavy! 3436 stock- maybe 3650 now? | ||||||||
Tires | Prius low-rolling resistance, of course! | ||||||||
Conversion Time | 18 months | ||||||||
Conversion Cost | Estimated $65,000 | ||||||||
Additional Features | Custom 2-tone green paint, Arma-coated bed. Rebuilt drive axle (the original was 2" too long with the transmission change out). J1772 'Blink' style plug where the fossil fuel used to go. Can plug in with any 15A normal household recept - there's a plug connection under the rear end. | ||||||||
I bought the initial kit for ~$23,000 from Evolve Electrics, and they have been helpful. |
