Vehicle | 2008 Toyota Prius with Enginer PHEV version 5 kit.
Motor | Toyota 3-Phase AC
Batteries | RFE, 0.00 Volt, Lithium-Polymer Realforce RFE battery packs in a 48V configuration with 80 Ah, giving approx. 4 Kwh of power. This system maintains the charge on the Toyota HV battery which runs at over 200V, through a 5000W DC-DC converter.
System Voltage | 48 Volts
Charger | Enginer Enginer 48V charger
DC/DC Converter | Toyota
Instrumentation | Factory instrumentation, complimented by a Scangauge II showing battery amps, battery volts, RPM, and other information.
Top Speed | 100 MPH (160 KPH) Because it can operate as a regular prius, the speed is the same as factory. However, when operating in all-electric mode, speed is limited to 34 mph.
Acceleration | Acceleration in hybrid mode is just like a stock Prius. When in EV mode, acceleration is about half normal power. Still plenty of power to drive around town. I still often leave people behind when taking off from a stop light.
Range | 40 Miles (64 Kilometers) Difficult to answer. EV mode range is 20 miles, blended mode range is 40 miles, and regular hybrid mode is pretty much as far as the gas tank can take me.
EV Miles |
| ||||||||
Seating Capacity | Seats 5 people, just as a normal Prius. Cargo area is also uncompromised as the PHEV kit goes into the spare-tire area.
Curb Weight | 0 Added an additional 160 pounds to the rear of the car, but also removed about 25 pounds by taking out the spare-tire.
Conversion Time | 1 weekend.
Conversion Cost | $3,000
Additional Features | Added the EV mode button as a separate button from the enginer system. Also embedded a Scangauge II right into the dash, which works out really well for reading live-data from all sorts of things on the car, such as HV battery amps, volts, and temperature. I can also read RPMs of the engine, electric motors, and other useful things. I also built a special alarm that will sound anytime the car is left plugged in while attempting to start the car, which has saved me several times from driving off while plugged in. Also upgraded all internal lights to LED, including additional lighting in the cargo area for showing off the Enginer system.
Can drive continuously in EV mode up to 34mph and up to 20 miles. Can drive in blended PHV mode for 40 miles with a fuel economy of around 70 to 100 mpg. |
