Vehicle | 2006 John Deere 102 Bought used with the intention of converting. Ran perfectly well with the ICE. |
Motor | Mars ME1004 Permanent Magnet DC THE motor to use if you want to convert a riding mower. This is a Permanent Magnet, Brush Type, DC Motor with Neodymium Iron Boron Magnets. The 1" shaft is similar to the shaft on most Lawn and Garden Tractor engines. This motor is perfect for an engine replacement on a Lawn and Garden tractor when converting the tractor to electric propulsion. No motor control is necessary for an engine-swap, but you will need to add a Contactor, Fuse, and 48 VDC batteries. Capable of 200 amps continuous, and 400 amps for 1 minute. The efficiency is 90%. Controller | None |
Batteries | 4, 12.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded The cheapest, Walmart Deep-Cycle Marine batteries I could find - I'm going to do everything I can to treat them right. |
System Voltage | 48 Volts |
Charger | Harbor Freight 1.5A 3-Stage Battery Charger/Mainta I took a chance and used 4 extremely inexpensive chargers. They are permanently connected and require approximately 36 hours to recharge after I mow my lawn. |
Top Speed | 5 MPH ( 8 KPH) Faster than with the ICE. |
Range | Unknown, but I can mow my 1/4 to 1/3 acre and I still have a 90% charge. |
Watt Hours/Mile | Using a Kill-A-Watt I determined that I use approximately 2.48KW to recharge after mowing. We pay the most for electricity of any city in the area, but it still comes out to about 13 cents. |
