Vehicle | 1990 Mazda b2200 Used truck off Craigslist.
Motor | Warfield Warp 9 Series Wound DC I purchased this motor direct from a dealer in Fenton Missouri.
Drivetrain | 5 speed manual transmission
Controller | NetGain Controls Warp Drive I call it the Ten pack. 5 power transistors made by Powerex model KS621K30. I put my controller project on hold and went with the 1000 amp 325 volt Warpdrive controller with a hall effect throttle.
Batteries | 26 Trojan 605, 6.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded Dropped the crappy marine batteries they leaked all over the place and I have a much better range :)
System Voltage | 156 Volts
Charger | Kelly 144 volt 8 amp I have removed the two crappy 12 volt chargers for the other two batteries and gone with a much stronger 24 volt wheel chair charger! For now I just charge the string of 26(156 volts) with the same 144 volt kelly charger but will up the battery voltage as soon as my homebrew charger is complete.
Heater | Ceramic heating element from a space heater.
DC/DC Converter | Iota 55 amp Shuts down sometimes I will install small battery soon to prevent this.
Instrumentation | Found voltmeter and amp meter. 1000 amp shunt. Will probably Change later. Update: I have upgraded to the Warpdrive interface its was a bit costly and the screen isn't quite as big as I thought it would be :(
Top Speed | 75 MPH (120 KPH) Maybe faster haven't tested it yet.
Acceleration | Slower with more weight now that I have almost 720 lbs over the rear end.
Range | 50 Miles (80 Kilometers)
EV Miles |
| ||||
Seating Capacity | 2 adults
Curb Weight | 3,939 Pounds (1,790 Kilograms) With the old battery pack the truck weighed 3060 lbs so minus the old battery pack which weighed 714 lbs (14x51)= 2346. Adding 26 Trojan 605's weighing 58 lbs each=1508 plus 4 15 lb battery racks, 3 5lb battery racks up front and 10 lbs for the new clutch 2346+1508+60+15+10=3939lbs SHEESH call Jenny Craig. Should probably weigh it on a scale to know for sure though. Need to replace the hood with a light aluminum or fiberglass one strangely though I cannot find one to purchase for a b2200?
Conversion Time | Don't ask!
Conversion Cost | 6000 | ||||
Additional Features | I have wrapped the batteries in insulation and lined the insulation with resistors two strings of 8 2 ohm power resistors for 16 ohms powered off the trucks 12 volt system which is really 13.8 so for each section of batteries power usage is 23.8 watts seven battery racks have the heaters so total power usage is 166 watts or almost three 60 watt bulbs. The new charger is modeled after the diyelectriccar 200 dollar diy charger and will have a programmable Arduino Micro Controller. |
