Vehicle | Replica Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - bespoke steel chassis and wooden body. Components taken from a mobility scooter. |
Motor | Permanent Magnet DC |
Drivetrain | Chain drive to diff on rear axle |
Controller | Came with the scooter. Fully variable. |
Batteries | 2, 12.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, AGM 2 x 12v 50 Ah Batts - should be good for REALLY long days out! |
System Voltage | 24 Volts |
Instrumentation | Voltmeter hidden under the bonnet |
Top Speed | 16 MPH (25 KPH) Too Fast for the littl'un. I need to change the ratio, but I can set the max speed. |
Acceleration | It won't wheel-spin in the dry, but on wet grass and in the snow my daughter had a few traction issues! |
Range | 20 Miles (32 Kilometers) Original mobility scooter electrics had a range of 20 miles on 26Ah Batteries. Chitty doesn't weigh much more, and my daughter weighs just 14kg, so I guess it about the same. We can go driving for 2 hrs with no drop in performance. Now its got 50Ah batteries it should go on all day. |
Seating Capacity | 2 children (one medium sized and one little!), a picnic basket and some teddy bears |
Curb Weight | 120 Pounds (54 Kilograms) |
Tires | Semi pneumatic |
Conversion Time | Don't want to think about it, and I suppose it'll never be finished. S'pose it was about 60 hours or so. |
Additional Features | Remote Radio Controlled cut off, just in case! |
Still working on the automatic wings.... 20/12/09 Did a 5 mile round trip today, and still had lots left in the batteries. Temperature was below zero and we had some issues with traction! 10/04/10 Changed to 50 Ah batteries, seems to have more punch, and range its more than required for local trips. |
