Vehicle1989 Mazda B2200
I purchased a 1989 B2200 with a blown engine for $350. The body is in good shape and it has all of its original equipment.
MotorAdvanced DC FB1-4001 Series Wound DC
Drivetrainmanual transmission
Controller
I am developing my own motor controller. Target spec is 120VDC @ 500Amp max.

On revision 2 now which appears to be working good.
Batteries20 Interstate U2200, 6.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded
System Voltage120 Volts
ChargerQuick Charge
Heateradded a 1500W ceramic heater with PWM control. Interlocked it with the fan motor so the heater won't come on and burn up if the fan is not on.
DC/DC Converter
will be using a separate battery for low voltage system. No DC/DC converter used.
Top Speed40 MPH (64 KPH)
only driving around the neighborhood so far and only got up to 3rd gear. It should go 55-65 easily.
Accelerationslow if up hill. Good on flat surface. Lots of low-end torque.
EV Miles
Start:120,904 Miles (194,534 Kilometers)

    As of 2/15/2010
Seating Capacity2 or 3
Additional FeaturesI added an interlock on the charging circuit so that you can not drive it if the charger is plugged in. I don't want to get forgetful and try to drive with it plugged into the wall.
Just starting on this project. I am developing the high voltage motor controller and charger systems from scratch.

The old engine, gas system, exhaust system and other un-needed items have been striped from the truck. The new electric motor is now installed and has been powered up to spin the wheels. Currently revising the motor controller electronics to use IGBTs instead of MOSFETS for higher voltage and current operation. Should take a week or two.

9/5/2009: Took it out for its first test drive. I drove it around the block (which has hills) a few times totaling 2 miles. Made it up to 30MPH in the residential area. No problems. Now working on getting all the wires looking nice. Also fixing some minor stuff so that it will pass the state safety inspection and be road legal.

10/16/2009: Got the state safety inspection, insurance and registration today. It is totally street legal now. Put 15 miles on it. Still want to revise the motor controller again to clean up some minor problems. Also need to adjust the motor mount some since it vibrates a lot at certain RPMs.
