Vehicle | 1992 Honda Civic DX hatchback
Motor | HPEVS AC-51 3-Phase AC vented mine has an internal encoder
Drivetrain | original trans axle/clutch
Controller | Curtis 1239 water-cooled (pump from EVsource) chill plate stays pretty cool even in sacramento heat 40c
Batteries | 45 CALB/Skyenergy 180 amp, 3.20 Volt, Lithium Iron Phosphate Calb SE grey cells Orion is reporting .4 -.7 IR 4 separate battery boxes
System Voltage | 144 Volts
Charger | Elcon 5k from Electric Conversions, has a simple circuit for BMS to shut down charge. It is also CAN capable but it is not integrated yet.
Heater | solid state heater core from KTA services replaced original core. Works great at 144 volts, worked poorly at 96 volts
DC/DC Converter | Zivan NG-1 DC to DC 150v 50amp output with 18 AH agm back-up
Instrumentation | Orion BMS-with android tablet running torque. Link 10/E-meter, analog battery amps, curtis spyglass
Top Speed | 85 MPH (136 KPH) Have not pushed it further it seems it would go much faster
Acceleration | brisk have not tested yet
Range | 80 Miles (128 Kilometers) Just did a round trip to bay area 80 miles each way. Orion said 33% SOC on arrival and 37% SOC on return. (charged while there)
Watt Hours/Mile | 265 Wh/Mile Calculated from link 10. installed Orion BMS so I will soon have more precise figures on this.
EV Miles |
| ||||||||
Seating Capacity | 2 adults, 2 kids
Curb Weight | 2,600 Pounds (1,181 Kilograms) guesstimate was about 3100 with floodies (1,050) lithiums are about 560
Tires | Goodyear Integrity
Conversion Time | Bought converted, but have upgraded controller, batteries, DC-DC, added j1772 charging port, instrumentation location, battery box covers, folding rear seat over battery box, etc.
Conversion Cost | 15k just for lithium upgrade been thru 3 sets of lead, one motor, one DC-DC. So all together ...lets not talk about it. This grin is worth it.
Additional Features | Put in Avcon charging port, then j-1772 port, placed E-meter and ammeter into dash; modified folding jump/rear seat for easy access to mid battery compartment. Envirotech Yuba City originally built battery boxes, and Ground Control did suspension components. Up-graded to Lithium finally. Re-did some wiring. incorporated Orion BMS, battery heaters, battery box cooling fans, front battery boxes, high voltage cabling is in liquitite in exposed areas, installed high voltage safety cutoff, aux contactor. Just completed AC-51/1239 drive system with lightweight balanced flywheel/clutch.
lithium is whole different ballgame. Orion BMS was a little complex to set-up but it works perfectly so far. It is very cool to finally see everything that is going on with the batteries. Live graphs with selectable parameters. Ewert Energy has been very helpful and responsive. Daily driver. This is my primary car. I go to Chevron only to wash windows or for air. The only thing I like driving more is my electric/human hybrid recumbent bike. |
