Vehicle | 1982 Ford Escort EXP EVA built this car in Cleveland 1981, using Soleq components built just for this purpose it seems. Turned out way to expensive, so they only built very few. If there's anybody out there who also has one and/or knows more, I'd be delighted to hear from them.
Motor | General Electric Shunt Wound DC Big. 32 hp. See picture.
Controller | Soleq Special built for SEVA
Batteries | 18 Trojan T-125, 6.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded New ~2003
System Voltage | 108 Volts
Charger | Zivan | ||||||
DC/DC Converter | Iota DLS-30
Instrumentation | Analog Amp and Volt meters in Dash
Top Speed | 70 MPH (112 KPH)
Acceleration | Compares to ICE cars, probably better than the EXP ICE though, from what I read on the Internet.
Range | 65 Miles (104 Kilometers) I got it with 2 year old batteries and ran it down in 45 miles (didn't know better than actually doing that to find out what the range was), so this actually might be 60-70 miles with new batteries.
EV Miles |
| ||||||
Seating Capacity | 2 adults and lots of other stuff
Tires | Yes, four of them :)
Additional Features | Regenerative breaking, working quite well. It's fun to use to keep the car at speed limint downhills, and watch the juice flow back into the batteries.
Update: I would love to hear from anyone who might have more of the history on this vehicle. We are currently planning to use it as a test bed for a new battery system being developed by our company. This is not a conversion, EVA built this from gliders. I heard that they built at least some of their EVs at the Ford plant. When I bought the car I was told that EVA only built three of these before realizing that it was too expensive to build them. I have since found two in schools through Google, and one completetly gutted for sale (which could be one of the former, I haven't actually checked if the schools still have them. |
