Vehicle | Turf Glider We replaced an 11Hp Honda ICE (broken down) with a 9.6kW Crowne forklift motor as part of a Petrol to Electric conversion course at the Canberra Institute of Technology. |
Motor | Crown Series Wound DC |
Drivetrain | The original gearbox/differential was kept and new belts and pullys replaced the existing system. |
Controller | Curtis |
Batteries | 48.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, Flooded |
System Voltage | 48 Volts |
Charger | Chloride Charger raided from an old telephone Uninterruptable Power Supply system. Very cheap!! |
Top Speed | 15 MPH (24 KPH) We calculated this speed based on the circumference of the wheels and the rotation of the motor/gearbox (1:12 ratio). This speed was also measured by GPS during testing. |
Acceleration | Pretty good! |
Range | The range is unkown due to the type of use of the vehicle. It is currently being used by maintenance staff who assure me that the charge is more then sufficient for a days work. |
Seating Capacity | 2 adults |
Curb Weight | 0 When we first got the vehicle it had a large block of concrete on the back to maintain traction. After removing this block we determined that with the added weight of the motor and batteries that the concrete was no longer necessary. The combustion engine was removable by hand, we needed an engine hoist to install and work on the motor! |
Conversion Time | 8 week course |
Conversion Cost | <$1000 AUS. The motor and the controller were donated by CanberraEV (Australian Electric Vehicle Association)and most of the other major parts were salvaged. |
