Owner | Paul Wayper |
---|---|
Location | Canberra, Australian Capital Territory Australia map |
Vehicle | 1999 Yamaha FZS 600 Original half-faired bike was in an accident - fairings and headlights damaged and chunk taken out of motor casing but no structural damage. Replaced fairings with full fairing kit from England, windscreen with touring screen from Eagle Screens. |
Motor | EnerTrac MHM-602 Brushless DC Now fitted with a 3.25" rim. |
Drivetrain | Direct drive via hub motor. |
Controller | Kelly KBL12601I 120V, 600A peak, regenerative braking. |
Batteries | 38 Thunder Sky LFP60AHA, 3.20 Volt, Lithium Iron Phosphate Supplied by EV Works in Perth. |
System Voltage | 120 Volts |
Charger | Kingpan KP12012. Fairly simple standard charger. |
Heater | Looking at heated gloves with their own batteries. |
DC/DC Converter | Bought custom by a friend, produces ~12V at 3.3A (40W). Adjusted up to 13V. |
Instrumentation | Existing speedometer. I bought a TBS e-Xpert pro, but it sees a constant drain on the battery of about 0.1A which I can't see from my instruments, so its actual idea of what the range is always slips down each charge. |
Top Speed | 78 MPH (125 KPH) It would be possible for me to verify that the motorbike will go up to 120km/hr if it was legal to go over 100km/hr in Canberra. |
Acceleration | Modest at the moment - the controller is set at 50% of motor power, so it feels like taking off in third gear. But it keeps that rate of acceleration up to about 80km/hr, so it takes off roughly the same speed as normal car traffic but then they start falling behind... |
Range | 78 Miles (125 Kilometers) 125km range based on recent measurements - I got to 81km and the BMS said there was about 25% battery remaining. |
Seating Capacity | 2 adults. Will be adding lower foot pegs for my partner who is 6'. |
Curb Weight | 440 Pounds (199 Kilograms) |
Tires | Dunlop ? front Michelin Pilot 2 Road rear. |
Conversion Time | Started in April 2009. First ride of bike in September 2011. Registered in February 2014. Motor repaired and full time riding started in May 2014. |
Conversion Cost | Around $12,000 for all the components. Including all the things I bought which I then decided to replace, more like $15,000. |
