Status Update December 2013: Final mileage = 9,800 The EV Cruiser is decommissioned and all components are being used in a Miata conversion. The EV Cruiser will be donated the Automotive Tech department here at the university and will be converted (again) with new LiFePO4 batteries, and an ac drive system with regenerative braking. The EV will continue to be used a a daily commuter between main campus and the automotive tech campus. Status Update July 2013: After nearly 8,000 miles the Logisystems controller failed. I replaced it with a Evnetics Soliton Junior and could not be happier! Status Update August 2012: The car now has over 5000 miles as an EV. I've had to upgrade the motor mounts and the coupler due to Chrysler's poor design. The new coupler eliminated the vibration in the original. Status Update April 2011: The car now has over 2000 miles as an EV. I drive it 25 miles daily using approximately 320Wh/mile. Status Update September 2010: Motor and controller installed and wired. Batteries and charger installed and wired. First test drive on September 19th, 2010, for 10 miles! Status Update February 2010: Motor and transmission installed, front struts and axles replaced. LiFePo4 batteries are ordered! (batteries were never delivered from EV Components. Finally purchased batteries in June 2010.) Status Update January 2010: Assembled motor, adapter plate, coupler and transmission. Front motor mount designed and fabricated (Thanks, Dad). Conversion started September 2009. |
