Near perfect condition vehicle purchased in '95 with 167K "ICE" miles, and although running great, would not pass emissions check without major overhaul. EV conversion required ~225 hours (most evenings 9/95 to 2/96). Upgrade (July, 2000); included 144 VDC traction pack, ceramic interior heater, DC/DC converter. Supportive employer happily installed 120 VAC, 15 amp (GFCI) circuit in outdoor parking lot for 8-hour shift "opportunity" charging. Driven daily beginning May '96 for 10-26 mile commute, until sold in June 2002 with 16K+ "electric" miles, and provided 5+ years of near trouble-free operation (and virtually endless perpetuation of the "EV-Grin" :-) The new owner (in Corvallis, Oregon) continues to use the vehicle as his primary "daily driver". |
