Vehicle | 1994 Cushman Electric ZEV I no longer own this vehicle, but I will keep the page up for historical reasons. It was a three-wheeled electric vehicle, it was used for several years by Sacramento's Parking Enforcement Division and delivered many a ticket, I'm sure.
Motor | General Electric 5BT1344B181 Series Wound DC Pretty large motor for a vehicle this size! Nameplate rating is 10.24 HP @ 2807 RPM and 61.7v @ 154A. Has factory field-weakening system which was inop when I obtained it.
Drivetrain | Cushman direct drive has a large GE series-wound motor directly driving the rear differential via a drive shaft with u-joints.
Controller | Curtis 1221B-6A701 Standard-Fare Curtis rated at 550A and 80V. Has Plug braking.
Batteries | 6 Yuasa PHX-12-440, 12.00 Volt, Lead-Acid, AGM Originally it had a pack of 12 Trojans, but they were destroyed from at least several years of sitting. The Yuasa's were given to me and supposedly were retired from Pixar's giant server farm after a few years of standby duty.
System Voltage | 72 Volts
Charger | Custom Built I never received the OEM charger, so I usually charge this with two 36v switch-mode supplies, but occasionally balance the pack with a 40a 12v charger.
Heater | Originally had an Electric heater, It's in a box somewhere, not really needed.
DC/DC Converter | Curtis 1400 72v in, 14v out @ about 30a. Powers on board 12v accessories such as lighting and main contactor.
Instrumentation | Curtis SOC gauge, Speedo, Odometer and Hour-meter.
Top Speed | 35 MPH (56 KPH) Speed-limited by design to NEV speeds. The motor is only humming along at several thousand RPM, so I bet with some tinkering with the field-weakening and a fresh pack it would go much faster, though I'm not so sure I want to!
Acceleration | Brisk off the line acceleration!
Range | 8 Miles (12 Kilometers) Battery pack is not in the best shape, (hey, it was free!) and it's much smaller than original. A new pack of Trojans would probably get you 40 miles.
Watt Hours/Mile | Lack of proper instrumentation onboard, so I'm unsure. If I ever get a new pack for it, I will put proper instrumentation in.
EV Miles |

Seating Capacity | officially one, but carries 2 decently. Could easily have seats added in back if the cargo box was removed. All batteries are below deck, so it can also be quickly converted into a flatbed.
Curb Weight | 1,385 Pounds (629 Kilograms) This is without batteries. It is rated for 885 lbs of Floodies, and will still carry 370 lbs according to the sticker.
Tires | Three 4.80 X 12 "Loadstar" 6-ply high-speed |
